Abstract
Agile software development practices are taking over the world because they work. In spite of
this fact, many databases are managed using Waterfall, or semi-Waterfall, techniques. The reason for this may be that
there is no clear translation into the database world of the practices we have already developed in the software
world.
Data Structure Metamorphism: Controlled Emergence of Database Design discusses our vision for
bringing true Agility to database development. It starts by showing how databases and code differ. It
discusses how we need to shift our values and adapt our thinking while adhering to our principles.
It then moves into how we can change our practices to better serve us in the database world.
